Please join Artspace on Friday March 8, 2019 from 7 to 10pm for the opening of A Guest a Host a Ghost, an exhibition of recent work by Krista Belle Stewart. Structured around installation and video work developed by Stewart during the artist’s current residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany. This project initially began with Stewart’s 2018 exhibition of the same name at YYZ Artists’ Outlet in Toronto, ON, this iteration of the exhibition functions as an ongoing exploration to Stewart’s connection to land and territory – specifically her family’s land in Spaxomin (Douglas Lake, BC).
An artist talk will take place on Saturday March 9, 2019 from 11am to 1pm and is free to attend.
Krista Belle Stewart is an artist and member of the Sylix Nation currently based on unceded Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam and Skwxwú7mesh territories (Vancouver, BC). Stewart works with video, land, performance, photography, textiles and sound, drawing out personal and political narratives inherent in archival materials while questioning their articulation in institutional histories. Within the last year her work has been exhibited at the SFU Teck Gallery, Vancouver; YYZ Artist Outlet, Toronto; Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery, Montreal; Musee d’Art Contemporain, Montreal; Independent Studio and Curatorial Program, New York; Plug In ICA, Winnipeg, and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin. Stewart holds an MFA from the Milton Avery School of the Arts at Bard College, New York.
We would like to thanks META 4 Gallery for their generous sponsorship of Krista Belle Stewart’s artist talk.
Artspace’s main gallery is physically accessible.
