InterAccess Fall 2019 Educational Program
InterAccess is pleased to announce its upcoming season of educational workshops and free professional development events, running from September to December 2019. Led by artists, writers, and educators celebrated in the field of media art, these programs feature a wide variety of practices, trends, and new ideas. Topics include live VJing with Resolume Arena, creating interactive installations with LEDs, building robots, and 3D scanning built environments.
All events will be held in the InterAccess Studio at 950 Dupont St. in the heart of the Davenport neighborhood.

WORKSHOPS
Heavy Lifting, Light Machining
Get introduced to the basic principles of machining with Naomi Dodds. Learn how to operate a milling machine and metal lathe to make fundamental components for robotic, mechanic, and kinetic art.

Discover the infinite possibilities of Resolume Arena with Ilze Briede [Kavi] and learn how to run your own live visual show using the software, projectors, sound, and midi devices.

Arduino Mozzi Synthesizer
Robertson Holt will teach participants how to build a low-resolution electronic synthesizer with oscillators, delay, reverb, FM synthesis, and sample manipulation.

Staining for Microscopy
Visual artist and scientist Raddah Chaddah will teach how to mount stains and natural dyes made from saffron, beets, and blue-green algae, and prepare them for photography using the InterAccess microscopes.

Let’s take a look at how light behaves, and explore different sources of light that can be used in artworks. Rob Cruickshank will contemplate the physics of light. Is it a wave? A particle? Or both? What is the difference between reflection and refraction? What is colour, and how do we see it?

Build a robot friend who can follow you around and navigate your home without bumping into things! Tess Sutherland will introduce you to soldering, circuitry, Arduino programming, and basic robotics ideas – including anthropomorphism and behaviour creation.

OPEN STUDIO
Every Wednesday we open our studio doors to the public. Join us to see what people are making or bring your own project to work on. Staff and community members are on site to provide project assistance or a tour of the facility. No registration necessary, attendance is always free. Every Wednesday, 7-10pm.

We regret that at this time InterAccess does not have barrier-free access; we are currently working to improve the accessibility of all facilities.
There are five steps up to the main entrance, which has double doors. The steps do not have handrails. Once inside all facilities are on the same level. There is a single-user washroom inside the unit.
