Call for Submissions: Window Display at Cutler and Gross Toronto
Cutler and Gross Toronto – Call for Submissions
Calling all Toronto-based artists:
Cutler and Gross Toronto, is now accepting submissions from local artists to present their work in the window display of 758 Queen Street West.
The Artist of the Month Program is an opportunity for artists to showcase their work in our entry window display. This project will introduce a different artist (or group of artists) to the West Queen West Neighborhood, our elite clientele, and the constant street traffic surrounding Trinity Bellwoods. We will help spread the word by sending out an introductory press release to relevant Canadian media.
We’ve had great success with past installations, allowing a variety of artists in their respective mediums to take over our storefront. Multidisciplinary Artist Julie Jenkinson’s Blackbones, a collection of sculptural jewelry, still holds a presence in our store as we continue to sell her handmade unisex necklaces and eyewear loops. In 2017, graphic artist Christopher Rouleau received a Communication Arts award for his installation: For Your Eyes Only, and most recently Leah Laverne (High Noon) + Talia Shaaked’s 2019 installation CV3 sparked a collaborative party that stretched into the wee hours of the morning.
To submit, no later than January 10th 2020:
- Your resume/CV,
- Artist biography
- A detailed proposal for your installation, in no more than 500 words. Your initial proposal should also include imagery for what you are proposing. See the below submission options:
Option 1: An existing work, or body of work:
If you will be showcasing an existing piece of art, please provide at least 2 images of the piece and explain how you’d like to present your work in our space, by creating a mock up (See attached example), or by explaining briefly in words. (e.g. My 3 paintings will be hanging, with fishing wire, in the middle of the window and above the console table, etc.)
Option 2: A new proposal:
If you are proposing a custom installation, please make sure you provide us a mock up of what you have in mind on an existing image of the storefront. (See below example from Google images). You will also need to provide us with a list of materials you plan on using. Explain briefly why your installation is relevant, and how you plan on installing it. Upon approval, and based on the scope of the work proposed, we will happily cover all the costs of the install. If you are up for a more involved project, please provide us with a detailed budget sheet as well to discuss.
NOTE: Glasses displayed in the window console, and hanging campaign imagery will have to be visible at all times. See measurement in above picture.
Once we receive your submission, we will get back to you within 2 weeks for a chance to meet in person. Feel free to drop by the store any time during our hours to see the space in person, or send an email with any questions.
