Deadline: Monday, April 15

The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival is now accepting applications from photo-based artists to participate in the 2020 Book Dummy Reviews.

This program is open to those who are developing a photobook, or for those with well-developed projects considering the book form for their work. This is an excellent opportunity for artists to have their work seen by over 15 local and international publishers, curators, and editors in a casual, one-to-one exchange. Artists will receive conceptual and practical insight about their projects, and gain invaluable feedback for applying to the Burtynsky Grant (more information below.)

This event is organized in conjunction with the CONTACT Photobook Fair on Sunday, May 3 that brings together independent publishers and leading contemporary photographers to present newly released publications. International publishers include: Candor Arts (Chicago); Ceiba Editions (Italy); Session Press (New York); Skinnerboox (Italy); Spector Books (Germany); TBW Books (Oakland); plus more to be announced.

Please note that due to limited space, all submissions will go through a selection process. Submissions are free. There is a $75+HST participation fee for successful applicants.

2020 Burtynsky Grant

Deadline: Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Photographer Edward Burtynsky and CONTACT are requesting submissions for the 2020 Burtynsky Grant—a $5,000 annual grant to support a Canadian artist in the creation of a photobook.

This grant is intended for photo-based artists who are in the advanced stages of developing a cohesive, rigorous body of work presented in book form. The jury is looking for submissions from those that have created a book dummy and who have had little to no prior opportunity to self-publish or work with a publisher.

For submission details visit scotiabankcontactphoto.com. The winner and honourable mentions will be announced in June.

For questions about the programs, please email photobook@scotiabankcontactphoto.com.
